The original notion for this piece focused on the idea of ‘collaboration’. But as it took shape I began to see that it suggested a number of new ideas, the egg being at the center of each. As an ancient and powerful symbol the egg can represent the transition from non-existence to life, rebirth, regeneration, death, and the universe. For me, the egg in this piece portrays potential and hope. These two figures possess hope and may be conveying this hope home to their families or community.
